2016 Concert- Come Fly With Me Around The World With Disney

Our Whole School concert took place a few weeks ago at the Clocktower Centre in Moonee Ponds.

The students did a fantastic job and the show was a hit. Here are some pics from the night! I wish I had more but it was so busy backstage with all the costumes, props, noise and nerves.

Book Week 2016

This year for Book Week each teacher was asked to choose a book they wanted to read to their class and to complete an art activity to accompany the book. I chose the Winning book ‘Mr Huff’ by Anna Walker.

I loved reading this book over and over and talking to the students about the meanings behind the story and the pictures. Such a powerful message and suitable for all ages. I think every family should have a copy of this book at home.

The art activity was a huge success. The students all love loved making their own special Mr Huff to share secrets and worries with. Their own special worry doll. We all need one of these! screen-shot-2016-10-22-at-4-17-01-pm screen-shot-2016-10-22-at-4-16-53-pm screen-shot-2016-10-22-at-4-16-45-pm

Another art activity that turned out striking was the year 5/6 scrapper board based on the book ‘One Step At a Time’. These works of art are on display in the library. img_5558 img_5559 img_5560

5/6 Student Costume Design Lesson

In the last week of Term 3 the year 5/6 students had a fun lesson based on costume design. We discussed the role costumes play in a performing arts show/ concert or entertainment piece. Students then had to pick a time from history and discuss and share what they knew about the fashion of the time.

After a quick chat and share with the class students got to work on designing and creating their costumes. The only catch was the material provided. Toilet paper. One roll per costume and no other tools. A fashion show was held at the end of each session to view the costumes and hear from the students about what they had created. These photos say it all……img_5197 img_5198 img_5199 img_5200 img_5201 img_5202 img_5203 img_5204 img_5205img_5210img_5211img_5213img_5215img_5216img_5218img_5219img_5221img_5223img_5224img_5225

Foundation Dance Unit

The Foundation students have begun a new unit of work this term in PA.

They will be working on the unit of Dance and Music. The music unit will be specifically focusing on singing.

They have been having lots of fun taking part in some dance activities using props such as Scarves.

I love these photos I snapped of some of the perps dancing with the scarves. They are moving so fast the photos are almost blurry.

ArtVision 2015 Art Show!

What a great night! ArtVision 2015 was a fantastic celebration of the artists work from the year. It was so wonderful to see the detail and dedication that went into each creation. The students should be so proud of the work they had on display and the work they produced over the year. It was lovely to see how excited each child was on the night when they showed their families their works of art.

Scarechooks and Scarepeople!

I have been working on a project for the school Greenteam. After meeting with Leigh the Greenteam Teacher we decided we wanted some small works or art for the veggie patch. We wanted something that would last in the weather and look funky and smart. Our plan was to create a Scarecrow Family. So…… two scarechooks, one Scarelady and a Scareman. This is stage one complete. Now to let the kids decorate them! image

Texture with the Foundation Students!

image image imageFoundation Students have been learning about Texture as an Element of Art. Students created Texture collages and Texture Garlands. They had heaps of fun and showed very good colour and pattern choices as well as great motor skills with the threading. I have loved working on this project with the preps. My favourite thing about this project has to be the junk collecting. Leading up to this project any scraps or items that had a nice or different texture went into a texture tub. It looked like a big mess or texture but to the students it was a box or creations waiting to happen. I love how children see art in junk! More photos to come!

Birds, Birds and More Birds!

The year 1/2 students have been working on a Bird Sculpture project this term. They are looking fantastic. Enjoy looking at the photos as they progress and develop. I can’t wait to display these at the art show!

Stay tuned….more photos to come!
