The year 1/2 students have been busy working on their clay sculptures in the art room. The process has been a new experience for many students experimenting with using clay as a medium as well as using clay tools. Students have enjoyed getting dirty and being messy with the sticky clay. Each 1/2 class has focused on sculpting a different structure based on their concert piece.
1/2A are working on Totem Poles.
1/2B are working on sculpting people or animals with umbrella’s.
1/2C are working on Mermaids.
1/2D are working on Snowmen.
1/2E are working on china cups and
1/2F are working on crocodiles.
Have a look at the photos and the process. More photos will be added as students finalise the clay stage of the sculpture building process.
Term three is always an exciting time in the Arts Department, as we get ready for a swap of art topics. Year F-2 will change from Performing Arts to Visual Arts and Year 3-6 will change from Visual Arts to Performing Arts. The students do get a kick out of starting the term with a new topic, room and art genre.
For all years Foundation to year 2 students taking part in Visual Arts an art smock is required. We will be getting messy so must protect our uniforms. An old shirt or top works well. Something that covers the students uniform but is easy to get on and off.
Come Fly With Me-
Around the World with Disney.
Work is underway to get things ready for our Whole School Production taking place at the beginning of term 4 2016. Auditions have begun for our leading characters, a committee is being formed with a back stage crew and set designers. The year Foundation to year 2’s students have begun to focus on learning dance steps and song lyrics as well as performed choreographed dances they made in small groups to their classes chosen song. These were brilliant!
Over the next few weeks there will be information in the newsletter for parents about costumes for each class and if there are any items that might need to be bought to school early to be transformed into costumes. So stay tuned.
The design a front cover for the program competition flyers have been handed out and I’m sure some children would appreciate some help with reading the instructions and with some ideas and designs.
With the Whole School Production fast approaching I am looking for parent helpers who are good at the following:
- Basic machine sewing for some costumes (Hat mainly, patterns will be provided)
- Cutting of fabric or paper into shapes for students to make into costumes
- Cutting of large pieces of cardboard into costumes.
- And other smaller jobs.
The arts department is always on the look of for junk that can be turned into art.
A new small wheelie bin will be outside of the office for any junk that is being dropped off for the art department.
Also anything that you think could be used for props or costumes would be great!
We have begin to get ready for the whole school concert. This will take place at the beginning of term 4.
Students have been lucky enough to hear their class songs this week and begin to get their ideas ready for a lot of fun lesson.
We will be looking for some parent help with some costume sewing and prop building so if your hand in any of these arts please let me know.
During my time as an art teacher at MPPS I have had many conversations with parents about how to encourage their children to do more art at home. They are not always sure where to start. They are looking for ideas or activities. So I have started created a list of sites that have a great range of activities that children of all ages will like. Check them out below.
Some of my favourites:
It has been an exciting start to the year in the Arts Department. The artroom looks clean and fresh. The Performing Arts room is all set up with a stage and a backstage area. We have been getting busy.
Students have been enjoying exploring visual diaries and what they are for in years 3-6. Student s have been working on a front page that is about them as an artist. Performing Arts:
the Foundation students have settled in well. They have been focusing their learning on what Performing Arts is and will be moving on to music. Playing and exploring with instruments.
In years 1/2 students have been learning about drama and characters. They have been looking at fairy tales and good verses bad. They have begun to put on mini performances on the stage as well as work on being a good audience member.
Over the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to work with a graphic designer to create some marketing tools to accompany my blog site. It has been so much fun and so much learning and exploring has taken place. What a way to get the creative juices flowing. Looking at logo’s, headers, stationary and lots more. It has been such an adventure.
The blog site appearance has changed in order for the new header to fit right on in and so other interesting and new attributes can be added. (Stay tuned for these)
Keep a look out for the new graphics and new look.
Starting a new year with a new look. Fresh and clean new drop sheets where added to the Artroom tables this week. I think they look so crisp. I am excited however to see them get a little messy.
I also added a few drawing inspiration and some greenery to the room with a succulent display on each table.
It was a hive of activity in the art room over the past few days as students got back into it. Each student from Foundation to year 6 has brought in their blank, fresh, ready to get the creative juices flowing visual diary.
The shelf in the artroom is a visual diary lovers dream. I do find myself looking at them and dreaming of the endless possibilities and projects that will be created and recorded in these blank pages.
Our first task was to work on a front cover.
I have dubbed 2016 ‘the year of the portrait’ what better place to start the year in art than by looking at a face. Weather it be your face or someone else. The eyes as I’m sure you have heard are the key to the soul. This inspired our first front cover page and artist to study. I bet you can guess who or what painting I’m writing about. Yep, the MONA Lisa. The students have been looking at her eyes and the fact that they do follow you around.
The front cover page of the diary is a MONA Lisa inspired page that has to be transferred to reflect the artist. Have a look at these pics of the students beginning their portraits. I’ll add more photos as we work on this task.
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fantastic restful holiday.
Did anyone get arty? i did a bit of art play with my two year old. We used a Geli Pad and get all messy. It was heaps of fun. I’ll have to upload some pics. Would love to hear what art adventures you got up to!
As many can see the art blog looks super different. I have been playing with a new look and a new header. This has been the third one i have used this week, so lets see how long it lasts.
Whats happening in the art department in 2016?
We will be putting on a concert this year in Term 4 that the whole school will be involved in. Over the year to prepare for this students will focus on the topics of Drama, singing and dance in Performing Arts. We will be working on prop design and production in Visual Arts as well as many other projects.
In Visual Arts students in year 3-6 will begin by looking at portraits and woks by famous artists.
Foundation students will focus on drama and what is performing arts.
Years 1/2 students will be learning about characters and conducting character studies in Performing Arts.
It is going to be another busy year ahead.
Please leave a comment on the blog! We love to hear from you and the students love feedback on their work.
